 STAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION

Collaborative learning develops from stakeholder involvement as follows:

Staff attending a learning event are involved in the entire process:

  • Pre event attendance

  • Event attendance

  • Post event attendance

PRE EVENT ATTENDANCE

As part of pre event attendance the following would need to be addressed:

  • How has a clear learning need been identified and justified?

  • Could a solution to the business/organisational problem be a non-learning solution?

  • Can the results of the proposed learning event be measured either quantitatively or qualitatively?

Key to the success of staff development and capability enhancement is need identification, which is an integral component of preparation stage.

The main staff learning needs are listed below:

1. Fixing a problem e.g. underperformance, inappropriate behaviour…

2. Addressing a specific skill gap e.g. how to use new software system.

3. Enhancing capability e.g. developing staff for the future.

4. Ensuring a standard level of knowledge, skills and attitudes (KSA) among staff e.g. induction.

5. Ensuring a certified level of KSA among staff.

6. Regulation/legally required training e.g. health and safety.

Once the learning need has been clearly identified it is possible to laser in on producing learning objectives and outcomes that will result in highly effective learning experiences.

As part of the preparation for a learning event careful consideration needs to be given to content creation which involves a review of the most appropriate teaching methodologies to achieved the desired learning outcomes:

  • Pre attendance reading content

  • Pre attendance activities

  • Interactive tutorials

  • Reading material

  • Audio visual learning material

  • Demonstration activities

  • Group discussions

  • Practice by doing options

  • Teaching others

  • Self evaluation sessions

  • Feedback sessions

  • Post training tasks

Learning content is developed to utilise a variety of mediums such as presentations, flip chart, interactive whiteboard, power point, interactive micro tasks, video, case studies, group discussions, and skills practice.

Learning content is finalised by ensuring it is aligned to the organisation's values.

LEARNING EVENT DELIVERY

Learning events can be delivered in person or on line.

During a learning event participants will be involved in activities designed to develop and deepen their understanding of the topics covered. Participants will engage in individual and group tasks to reinforce the learning objectives of the course.

Learning events should utilise Gagne's nine levels of learning to maximise learner engagement.

POST LEARNING EVENT

As part of post learning event delivery the following would need to be addressed:

  • Staff will be required to attend a post learning event evaluation session utilising the Brinkerhoff success case method of evaluation

  • Staff will be encouraged to set up learning pods amongst themselves to continue their learning journey.
