Motivation & The Pain Equation

Motivation & The Pain Equation

In the work environment staff often face issues/problems that create pain points. From irritating matters concerning poor work conditions, to serious issues relating to bullying and harassment.

Sometimes staff tolerate negative situations for extended periods of time and are at a loss when questioned as to why they did not take any action to alleviate the issue/problem.

Sometimes the ultimate action staff members may take, is to quit their job when the situation becomes overwhelming and they can no longer cope.

What affects motivation to tackle unpalatable matters in the work place? Consider the pain equation.

If the pain of tolerating the problem/issue is greater than the pain generated by solving the problem then action will be taken.

If the pain of tolerating the problem/issue is less than the pain generated by solving the problem then no action will be taken.

What issues are affecting you or your team and what side of the pain equation are you or they on?
