Skill Based Problem Solving (SBPS)

Skill Based Problem Solving (SBPS)

You may relate to the following. You are at work, you encounter a problem, you try to solve it, you don’t. The problem escalates. You try alternative solutions. You may even try multiple alternative solutions. The problem persists. You then have a few options, keep trying to solve the problem with your existing skill set, seek out new skills and apply them to the problem, get help from a trusted person, bury the problem and hope it goes away.

A more expedient solution would be as follows:

•Write down the specific problem as concisely as you can

•Share the problem with a highly skilled trainer who specialises in the area that is causing you difficulty

•Meet with the trainer to explore skill based options to deal with the problem

•Learn the skills required to solve the specific problem

•Apply the skills in the work environment to the specific problem

•Review the outcome(s) of your skill based problem solving intervention.
